I think of the Living Bible as more of a commentary than a translation. So, when using it as a reference it can help give some nuance to the text. I can’t accept all if it necessarily but that doesn’t mean that it doesn’t have value. Just realize it’s not a word for word (and most of them are not 100%).

Easy Reading (4/13/2020)

I use NKJV for study and memorization but for reading I love The Living Bible. It is a smoother translation and makes it more enjoyable to do Bible reading. I would recommend it to anyone.

Unless we become like children understanding, questioning and honesty.... how can we enter into the Kingdom of God

Living Bible Part of My Life (11/24/2019)

I consider e-Sword to be one of the greatest Bible study tools available! Given the many Bible versions, commentaries, dictionaries, and other resources at one's fingertips, I can't imagine going back to a library of books. While I appreciate getting the perspective provided in the Living Bible, I more appreciate the opportunity to compare it with all the other versions. Thank you so much for providing this fantastic tool.

This brings out thoughts and truths that were hidden in other translations that I checked the other Bibles to see if it was really in the Bible, the other translations proved it right, only in words easier understood. My memory verses previously were in King James, so I go back to KJ to recite those verses. Good companion version for Bible Study. I highly recommend.

Reviewed by (Lana Law, Elkhart, IN, US) - I would never read The Living Bible exclusively for my Bible reading. I have found a few verses changed or missing and prefer the KJV. I do find some the LB has a poetic explanation that I find appealing. Corinthians 13:4 & 5:  Love is very patient and kind, never jealous or envious, never boastful or proud,  never haughty or selfish or rude. Love does not demand its own way. It is not irritable or touchy. It does not hold grudges and WILL HARDLY EVEN NOTICE when others do it wrong.

It is a good way to gain an overall understanding of a scripture. Although I have an extensive library of (hardcopy) bibles, commentaries, dictionaries and a Strong's. Ever since I was first introduced to e-Sword nearly 20 years ago, it has become one of my most favored resources. I bought The Living Bible because I was told that the version provides an excellent translation in relatively simple, easily understandable (modern-day) English, without compromising the integrity of the Word. It would be an understatement to say that I was more than satisfied. It is a truly worthy addition to my e-Sword resources and I recommend it highly.

eSword and the NLT; My Thots (7/1/2017)

Could it have something to do with the fact that I got eSword 7-8 years earlier? Hmmm? Very likely. Not that I am a Bible software connoisseur or hoarder, but I think eSword is as good as it gets. At least, until a new, improved version comes out. We use the NLT at our church. Not exclusively, nor do we condemn those that would choose to struggle with the KJV. I find it much more readable than the NASB, HCSB, and the ESV. (I have these, just in case you are wondering. I prefer Proverbs in the CEV.) I had some difficulty with my order of this, but the folks at eStudySource were great about helping me correct things. Can I recommend this? Sure! Can I recommend that you purchase this? Well, to paraphrase a Nobel Laureate, I can't think for ya, you'll have to decide, whether this good translation has GOD's word inside.I am very happy with my purchase and have no regrets.
