The Revised Standard Version - The Translation by Which all Others are Measured!
Now Includes The Apocrypha. The Revised Standard Version Bible, translated from the original Scriptures, debuted in 1952 to widespread acclaim. It was subsequently adopted by a spectrum of denominations the world over for use as a text in both public worship and private devotional settings. The RSV dramatically shaped the course of English Bible translation work in the latter half of the Twentieth Century. It remains the Bible of choice for many people, and has become a benchmark for comparison to other English Bibles.
This edition NOW INCLUDES the Apocrypha, which is labeled "RSVA" in your list of installed Bibles.
Runs on e-Sword PC, Android, X for Mac®, HD for iPad®, and LT for iPhone®. These links show system requirements for using e-Sword software on your device. Recent versions of e-Sword are required in order to install and use e-Sword modules purchased from eStudySource.com.

Last Enjoyable translation form the Council of Churches
(9/28/2024)
Reviewed by (Julian Dobbie, Keizer, OR, USA) - This is a wonderful translation still. While I read many translations this one is what I consider the only reliable one from the Council of Churches wich is now woke and corrupt. All newer versions of theirs are tainted with some form of bias which grows with every update. I call out to every publisher and translation committee. STOP updating the Bible to fit your view of modern language and culture. If the KJV stood for 400 years, our modern translations don't need updating every few years to incorporate the corruption of the English language by our younger and confused generations. The RSV is still valid and enjoyable to read. Unlike its modern cousins.

My favorite translation among my Top 3.
(3/13/2024)
Reviewed by (Todd noname, St. Louis`, MO, US) - The RSV is a cleaned up and partly modernized version of the 410 year old Elizabethan English - KJV, of which nobody speaks like that any longer. I find that all bible translations have pros and cons, and the NASB 1995 might be a hair better in the actual "word for word" rendering, but I prefer the RSV. I actually study using about 7 translations, but the RSV is my favorite. Sometimes the RSV is better than all the others, sometimes the NASB gets some sentences better than the others. There are always tradeoffs, good and bad about all translations. But some are way better than others.

"New" Old Bible
(1/22/2023)
Reviewed by (Pete Fleming, Spring Branch, Texas, United States) - I have been using the invaluable e-Sword in my ministry for many years. It is the best and most helpful I have found (including several that I paid many dollars for). I just added the old Revised Standard Version (which is worth every penny) to my e-Sword app. It is still one of the best of all modern translations. I have only paid for one other bible version, the New American Standard, which is also a staple. I hope everyone who uses e-Sword will give a generous donation every time they update!
Wonderful Translation for Daily Use
(6/13/2021)
Reviewed by (Daniel Juroff, Waukegan, IL, US) - When I study for Sunday School, I enjoy having several versions of the Bible available to me. Sometimes, one will offer just the right translation to make a point most clearly. The RSV is an accurate, faithful translation, and I love having it available to me in e-Sword. I had a version in print, but I think I gave it to someone and never replaced it on the shelf. Problem solved!
A Very Good Bible
(1/12/2021)
Reviewed by (David Israel, MACON, GA, US) - This is a very good Bible. It is tried, used and still a standard. I have several hard copies. It is a more readable and modern translation and has fewer archaic variations. I still prefer the King James Version. I often compare the translations. When there are unexplained differences, I proceed with a word study. e-Sword makes that easy!
I do see doctrinal influences in all translations. I see many in the KJV but I know them well. The RSV has some but they are not as well known to me. The e-Sword Version helps sort the translation and determine the correctness of the translation. I will always value he RSV e-Sword RSV

RSV review
(2/9/2017)
Reviewed by (Anthony Strefford, Horncastle, Lincolnshire, United Kingdom) - I have had a hard copy of the RSV since March 1969 and it has served me well as a second to my KJV.
However, as I have gotten older - in my 70's - my eyesight is not as good as it was.
Having e-Sword is a blessing and having the ability to now use the RSV for my typed studies is great.
Thank you for making it available. Fully recommended!
Good Reading bible

Reviewed by (F. Hawk, Salem, OR, US) - Nice Translation, I purchased this for one reason, to compare the verses to ESV and NRSV. Personally, I appreciated good reading. I found myself that I like to check RSV again and again that will help me to understand the Scripture. With this translation, I will definitely recommend this to any one who read ESV or NRSV as nice addition to their studies. PTL
Death and comfort of the young
(10/22/2013)
Reviewed by (Otto Lassen, Rushville, MO, US) - I love this version because some of the scripture is easer for people to understand especially when at a young child's death in a family you can quote Isaiah 57:1-2 and it gives them a lot of comfort. Thank you for all the trouble you go through to get the word into many hands.

(3/2/2012)
Reviewed by (Todd L, St. Louis, MO, US) - Through the years I have found some of my favorite Christian writers quote from the RSV. I actually study several versions and while I have learned of their shortcomings, I find myself returning primarily to the RSV for two main reasons: 1) It really hits the mark on passages that are important to me, and 2) the overall flow of the wording reads well.
I originally got mine in a Harper Study Bible back in 1981, and now that I have the RSV inside of e-Sword, I'm quite happy.
