Vines is NOT keyed to the Strongs #s, the Greek or the Hebrew words. What you can do is click the English work in your Bible, and the definition opens--for that English word--but no guarantee it is the correct Greek/Hebrew word behind the text.To find the correct word, you have first know what word is used, then click the search (binocular icon) in the Vines tab, then enter your search, which may, or may not, lead you to the correct word in the verse. If you type the Greek word in the search, you must get the transliteration exact, or no results. I love it. I use it. But corrected, this would be an awesome module. Still worth buying, but know what you're getting into.

My favorite dictionary
(2/7/2013)
Reviewed by (Darrel Yontz, Albuquerque, NM, US) - Vine's is my favorite dictionary because it offers far more than a simple definition. Each entry has the definition and exposition to frame that definition into place for understanding. The "flavor" of each definition is given with scriptural back-up as to where each definition is used. This allows for understanding nuances of language when we don't have the expertise to know Greek. As a preacher, this is one of my most used reference books. Also, where some get "wordy" with definitions, Vine's remains concise but thorough.

Reviewed by (Todd L, St. Louis, MO, US) - I was thrilled to see that Vine's had a dictionary on the Old Testament, too. I had not known that! I bought the hardbound Vine's on the New Testament somewhere around 1982, and found various expositions within it, very cool. I remember reading Vine's take on the "camel through a needle's eye" stating that there was no such historical evidence to the modern day teaching, which really impressed me, since I had a conviction that all these stories that were circulating from "pastors/teacher" seemed dubious.
Then, later on, I discovered Lamsa's Peshitta, and learned that Greek was not the language of the original New Testament, but rather Aramaic was, and furthermore the Aramaic word for "rope" very closely resembles "camel", shown in imagery side-by-side. What Jesus actually said, according to the Aramaic manuscripts of the gospels, was "It is easier for a rope to go through the eye of a needle, than it is for a rich man to enter the kingdom of heaven." How cool is that?!!
Vine's was right on the money! heheh

Knowlege is power

The Bible can not be studied enough. The more we learn, the more we realise how little we know. Understanding what is read, and the way it was meant to be read, in the original written languages, clears the muddy waters of our own understanding.
Knowledge is power, and we can only do our best as humans. Because of humility, and the knowledge that God is our protector, we can more easily submit to God, resist the devil, and know that he will flee.
In humility and knowledge we therefore know that it is not because of us, but Jesus Christ in us, that allows us to claim victory in His name.

This is an excellent resource for discovering the many possible meanings of the original language words. Does a word seem out of place? I can search and search through the many versions of the bible available on E-Sword, plus others unavailable, but how do I decide which one I should believe? Maybe more than one is correct. The ancients were as capable of double meanings as we are, I'm sure. Vine's is a huge part of helping me to understand what some of those double or hidden meanings might have been. I am not a student of biblical Greek (though if I had time . . .), and realize the short-comings of trying to understand based on dictionary definitions. Still, I think knowing these things is very helpful. With the guidance of the Spirit of Christ, I find Vine's to be a vital resource and I would hate to have to do without it. Thanks for publishing it for E-Sword!
