I may be wrong on that assumption. Instead of spending $30-50 on the MacArthur study bible, you can have this SW package for about half with your eSword bible resources.

This MacArthur Study Bible, has been my favorite because of it profoundness, simplicity, and knowledgeability, Pastor MacArthur, whom I do not know personally, only through youtube videos, seems thruthfull, sincere and knowledgable. It is actually just a cross reference like you get in any study bible but not nearly as comprehensive. In many cases the "cross reference" points to the same text you are referencing from. I am not especially pleased with the purchase and would advise someone to look elsewhere for a more in depth commentary.

The 2040 pages are filled with clear doctrinal teachings, sound exegesis, along with great historical backgrounds of each book of the Bible. I recommend this as a "go to" text for us as preachers of the Gospel.
I have a hard copy of this text but I also felt compelled to get it in electronic format as well. It find it a helpful edition to my electronic library, using it along side other texts in the e-sword package.

For example I do weekly Bible Studies with inmates by mail it helps me get good thoughts for them in the letter I need to write to each one. Actually the complete e-sword system has been a great help for me the past several years, I would be lost with out it, thank you so very much for providing a system that fits my budget.
It is also a great help in my Sunday school class each Sunday so thanks again for a great system.

I have been In fellowship with God for about 10 years and spend time daily with Him and His Word and Spirit. I have used e-sword as one of my resources for studying God’s Holy Word. With regard to MacArthur’s Bible Commentary in the app, it is only a lightly covered Commentary because it was designed for some of us who don’t want exhaustive studying of God and His Word but still want to better understand God and His Word. I enjoy the exhaustive in-depth studying myself. I consider MacArthur, or Pastor John MacArthur, as a wise teacher and pastor (over 40 years) and brother in Jesus Christ. He is is also the opresident of Masters Seminary.
He has a complete, thorough, accurate, exhaustive Bible Commentary Series available for several hundred dollars. I am confident that along with God’s Holy Spirit and prayer and meditation on God’s Word, God has
used Pastor John MacArthur to teach and preach well to us in this generation.

I also use it as we discuss different passages and how they might apply to us today. The MacArthur commentary gives me a very good perspective on what the writer was trying to say with a lot of depth that can not always be easily found in one resource. He is practical and insightful with his writing and that helps give us a better understanding of what was being said at the time and why, while providing us with a framework for effective discussion of where we are today.

I have his commentary here at home and use it all the time, but really is to large to carry to my women's bible study that I lead. and since we study out of his lesson books, what better thing to have than his commentary also to go along with the studies. I really like the way he lays each verse out and not just a line or two on the subject. If you are looking for a good commentary I would recommend MacArthur Bible Commentary.

But I needed a contemporary source for my personal Bible studies and the studies I share with others. MacArthur's Commentary fits my needs perfectly. I like the brevity of the comments and the cross referencing that he provides. His insights are very refreshing. I normally will try to put his thoughts in my own words, but sometimes I can't help but copy and paste word for word. Having an e-copy of the commentary allows me more time in my study. As a whole e-sword has been my constant companion for years. I even take it with me on mission trips to Honduras. I "never leave home without it."

I think that the name commentary makes you think there is going to be more than just one or two lines on each passage. E-sword is a great tool and I appreciate it very much. His commentary is basic and he doesn't tear into some of the verses that I would have sunk my teeth into. But its good to look down and every now and then and know that you didn't misinterpret something.

I've had e-Sword pretty well since its' beginning, among many "other" Bible study programs, tools, etc... The price I've paid for them total many hundreds of dollars that have caused me much grief since upgrading from DOS, Windows3.1, ~ finally Windows 7. I've had to drop those other Bible programs and just declare them as a loss, or a "support for their ministries" and I've set my desires on e-Sword only. Yes, I'm very well pleased with e-Sword and the support that is there, and I do hope and pray that it continnues.

I thought it would be more in depth than my study Bible notes, and was a bit disappointed to simply have the notes I already have in study Bible form digitized. Wish the description would have been a little more clear on the product, but it may prove helpful in the future to have the study Bible notes in e-form.

With that said, MacArthur covers the entire Bible in this commentary providing a thorough pastoral and doctrinal commentary on the Bible. This commentary will not replace the necessary dictionaries for original languages but I still give it a 5-star review because MacArthur is right-on in his interpretation of the text and this commentary is meant to be more of a Bible Study notes aid than a full in-depth commentary.

While I truly respect and admire Mr. MacArthur as a teacher and while I am pretty sure his book commentary is excellent as a book, it does not to be so strong and helpful here with all the other commentarys. I am used to more information (like Henry)and MacArthur is light and brief, not going deep in most references. Also, others have active scripture vers links to bring up the wording of the scripture being studied and Mac's does not (that I see). Sorry to less than elated... Blessings, with humility. PS I give eSward a 5-STAR rating and love it as my preferred study tool.

I've just had this e-sword commentary for a week, and it appears to be the same as MacArthur Notes that are added to the MacArthur Study Bible. The benefit of the commentary on e-sword is the ease of copying and pasting into your own study & topic Notes.

The MacArthur Commentary is an excellent resource for those who want a single text commentary of the entire Bible. One must understand that this is not an exhaustive commentary nor was it intended to be, it was designed to be a paired down version of his complete commentary set which can cost near $500 dollars. This commentary hits most points but does not go as indepth so that MacArthur can provide his wisdom and insight within a single text commentary.
As with all MacArthur writings you will find that this commentary is that is written from a conservative Reformed Theology Christian viewpoint, which is why I purchased it. I have used this commentary to increase my knowledge, to develop Sunday school presentations, as well as using it for sermon during my preparation.
I originally owned the hardback copy of MacArthur's Commentary but I had to re-purchase the E-book version because I gave away my original copy to a Hispanic migrant worker that I had befriended, and through the power of the Holy Spirit, led to Christ. He had so many questions, and many frustrations, because of the differences between the English and Spanish languages. My migrant ffriend was bipolar and Satan also used that to confuse and discourage him from studying God's word. By using the MacArthur Commentary I was able to confirm my answers to him by showing him MacArthur's comments on the issue. My Hispanic friend was a very intelligent person and asked very deep and extremely well thought out questions. Having John MacArthur's commentary available to use was a literal godsend to answering his deep questions. Prior to my friend returning to Mexico after the canning season was over I gave him my hardback copy so that he would have conservative Biblical answers to his many probing questions.
I liked the fact that I was able to purchase the commentary while it was on sale from eStudySource. It was much cheaper than purchasing the hardback and lugging it around with me everywhere I go as much of my preparation is done outside an office.
I gave the John MacArthur Commentary five stars because it was exactly what it proclaimed to be...an excellent conservative Reformed Theology single text commentary that will build your Christian knowledge and assist you with anything from simple Bible study to sermon preparation.

So far when I looked for further insight and explanation I did not find it. But up to now I have only tested it in Matthew. That's why we use a number of commentaries.

It has literally cut my preparation time by as much as 1/3 of the time due to the ease of finding the resources, Bible verses, and commentary that is needed in preparation. That may not sound like much to some, but when you are preparing for 2 sermons, 2 Bible study classes, and the occasional guest speaker appearance, all on a weekly basis, that amounts to hours of available time to do other pastoral duties. Thank you for providing this valuable resource.

Provides helpful linguistic observations, brief background notes, and some cross references. Not all verses contain notes. It is not a detailed commentary such as Dr. MacArthur's printed commentaries. Nevertheless, it is a fine addition to the e-Sword Bible study library.
